The author manages to create a lot of images in my mind, especially images of many Chinese people gathering to celebrate their own feasts with plenty of different Oriental foods. She creates images of peopletrying to lead two kinds of life, so as to be able to both keep their own customs but also to live in the new country they have chosen to move.

Night of the New Magicians
The main characters of the story, Jack and Annie have gone back in time to the 1889 World Fair in Paris, where they have met after a rally four important men at the top of the Eiffel tower. This was the apartment of the engineer who has been able to build the architectural miracle of his time and the then tallest building in the world,the Eiffel tower.The main characters felt the privilage of meeting those important mrn in human history, talking to them and learning directly from them the "secrets of their magic."
